 THE OTTAWA FIRE DEPARTMENT OPERATES FROM THREE STATIONS

WITH A STAFF OF 40 VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTERS. THE STAFFING

CONSISTS OF ONE CHIEF, THREE ASSISTANT BUREAU CHIEFS,

THREE LIEUTENANTS AND 33 FIREFIGHTERS. THE DEPARTMENT

APPARATUS INCLUDES THREE ENGINES, TWO LADDERS, ONE SERVICE

TRUCK, ONE BRUSH TRUCK AND A STATION CAR.

  THE DEPARTMENT OPERATES ONE HEAVY RESCUE TRUCK THAT

SERVICES ONE HALF OF THE COUNTY AND OPERATES A TECHNICAL

RESCUE TRAILER. ALL FIRE OFFICERS AND FIREFIGHTERS ARE

TRAINED TO HANDLE HAZARDOUS MATERIALS INCIDENTS AND PROVIDE

SERVICE ON A COUNTY WIDE BASIS.

  THE DEPARTMENT HAS A CLASS FOUR RATING FROM THE INSURANCE

SERVICE ORGANIZATION THAT RATES FIRE DEPARTMENTS AND

DETERMINES INSURANCE RATES FOR COMMERCIAL, INDUSTRIAL AND

RESIDENTIAL PROPERTIES.

  THE DEPARTMENT PROVIDES IN-SERVICE TRAINING TO DEPARTMENT

PERSONNEL AS WELL AS THE GENERAL PUBLIC IN THE FORM OF FIRE

SAFETY DEMONSTRATIONS, FIRE EXTINGUISHER OPERATION CLASSES,

SAFETY TALKS, STATION TOURS AND SAFETY INSPECTIONS OF

COMMERCIAL AND RESIDENTIAL PROPERTIES.

THE DEPARTMENT RESPONDS TO APPROXIMATELY 150 ALARMS

ANNUALLY.
